Rooms of Red Bull – Cultur in Amsterdam´s Redlight District

Amsterdams famous red light district is currently in the midst of an artistic transformation. Since Thursday night, the legendary De Wallen area of the Dutch capital has a whole new look: along the famous canals of the city, the Rooms of Red Bull are giving musicians, artists and photographers 600 m² of space to present their skills to an international audience. As the event opened on Thursday, DJs, comic artists, graffiti sprayers, designers and photographers were on hand to show off their work just a few hundred metres away of the capitals famous window girls. Amsterdams oldest district has always had a reputation for appreciating all things sensual, but since Thursday evening the red shop windows of the Dutch capital have been attracting clients of a very different sort: the elite of the international art scene, brought together under the motto InspireCreateExpose. The Rooms of Red Bull will be giving musician, painters, designers and photographers from across the whole artistic spectrum the chance to display their work until the end of August. Indeed, with the artists in the Dutch capital free to produce and display whatever they want, there is no way of knowing what will appear in the districts famous red windows. Every Sunday the doors are thrown open to the public as the Rooms of Red Bull invite tourists and locals alike to hang their own art on the walls or take part in workshops.
