i took a wrong turn this evening and then shortly later realised that a car was following me?

for around half an hour a car was following me around roundabouts and side streets, i’ve just been informed that the turn in i had taken was in a red light district so i think the car was undercover police, can i be fined for this despite it being a wrong turn?
