Don’t go there. There’s nothing to see. Ugly people, leering tourists and Dutchmen, African and middle eastern dope peddlers, deficient looking Americans, played out whores in windows, and a general air of ‘ I need a life.’

The red light district of Amsterdam is a very popular tourist area, you will find couples walking along, groups of men and women together as you will groups of guys out on a bachelor party.

    1. The coffee shops: if it’s empty don’t go in. For first time smokers in europe: ask for advice on your order they will be happy to let you try a bit.

    2. There are lots of men selling drugs on the streets, you name it they have it. Be careful if you do buy from them don’t show them your money they will follow you and rob you!

    3. The sex industry : they have hygiene laws to respect, so don’t go to back road house that is the only one in the road, go where the crowds are.

    4. The crowds , yes the area is quite crowded, so be careful of your wallet

  6. Ross says:

DO- carry lots of cash/spare change and box of condoms; DONT- go after the hairy prostitute/one with the large gentalia, continue having sex with said prositiute if distinct smell of tuna occurs

  7. Irene Heyzer says:

DO beware ith your surroundings and try to show a relax face unless you are going there to find some illegal drugs or even some “fun”..
DON’T bring your camera. I did that once, i’m trying to taped them with my handycam (i tried to hide it) but once they found out, i almost got killed… Goodluck

DO visit the prostitute information center and participate in a walking tour of the RLD
    http://www.pic-amsterdam.com/html/english.html

    DO watch your wallet

DO spend time in chinatown (street just at the top of the RLD) and eat some awesome dimsum (Eat Mode is a good place…just across from the buddist temple on the Zeedijk)

DON’T waste your money on a hooker…keep in mind that some are not what they seem and are not obligated to say so until they are paid

DON’T take pictures…many of the girls in the windows don’t want to risk being seen by people they care about…some even have people that will chase after you and break you camera.

DON’T make eye contact w/ the creepy bums…most will leave you alone if you don’t acknowlege them but if you do be ready for a hassle. Oh and if you hear “Charlie” that’s code of cocaine.

DON’T think that’s all Amsterdam has to offer. There’s so much more to this beautiful city than sex and drugs.

DO not go there, DON”T spent your money there it’s a waste and respectful. a lot of women who work there, have to work, because they are kidnapped or forced into doing. Of course there are women who choose to do this for their job, but can you tell the difference. And even if you asked them, those forced in the job will not tell you that, because they are to scared to be beaten up after wards.
