What do you think about prostitution being legalized nationwide?

Prostitution is legal in Vegas, why not the whole U.S. Many European countries already have legalized prostitution, and it allows them to regulate it. As a result, they have lower incidences of rape. Do you think legalized prostitution would lower rape rates in the U.S.?
Sorry, I didn’t realize that it wasn’t legal in the city of Las Vegas itself.
Tsmoove- the integrity you speak of consists of YOUR values. What makes you think that you are so righteous that you can impose your beliefs on others?

it would clean up our streets of hookers

    It should be!

Don’t care for the idea of legalized prostitution and I don’t see how it would reduce rape. Rape is an act of violence and not sex.

although there are lower reports of rapes, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. These areas also have higher rates of STDs and some people being forced into it.

its the worlds oldest profession…i don’t see the big deal. at least this way STD’s and HIV can be somewhat controlled.

  6. Quixotic Cowboy says:

Rape has nothing to do with sex. It’s about power and control. Legalizing it would not have any significant effect on rape rates. I seriously suspect any differences between the US and nations that have some legalized prostitution are due primarily to other differences.

And by the way, while Nevada does have some legal prostitution, ever notice the the illegal variety are still all over the streets?

Prostitution is NOT legal in Vegas–it is legal in other parts of Nevada but not Vegas.

It might be alright to legalize it in certain sections of each state–but not the entire state.

I think it probably would lower rapes (though even prostitutes have been raped), but more important–lower the incidences of STDs (the women would have to be checked out often if legal).

Actually, prostitution is not legal in either Clark County (Las Vegas) or in Reno; it’s legal everywhere else in Nevada. I would vote to legalize prostitution, because it would better protect the women that work in the industry. I doubt that the incidences of rape would decrease, however. Rape is generally a crime committed by someone who wants to assert his dominance over a woman; such a person isn’t going to avoid rape by having sex with a legal prostitute.

  9. Blingme says:

It’s also legal in some South American, as well as European countries.

Having some legal background I can tell you that legalized prostitution is governed by the State Government in some of these countries. Prostitutes are held at higher health standards, because of their profession, meaning they must be tested monthly and hold a valid license to ‘prostitute,’ clients may ask to see their cards, to ensure they are being checked routinely.

The State Govt. gets paid the licensee fee, and ensures the public of proper health safeties.

I think it should be legalized, controlled, and taxed. Would get the pimps and the addicted prostitutes off the streets by regulating such matters.

I don’t think it would lower the rape crime, since prostitution and rape are not mutually inclusive. Although some prostitutes do get raped, the percentages lean more towards the non-prostitutes being the victim 90% of the time. Rapist have mental disorders, so their victims tend to be the girl-next-door type, rapes don’t occur because there is a lack of prostitutes, or lack of money, it occurs because the rapist has psychological issues.

It should be legal. It would solve a whole slew of social problems and decriminalizing it would free up police powers to help stop violent crimes.

It’s also interesting to note the number of people who have contracted AIDS from a legal brothel in Nevada. That number would be: Zero.

That’s right there’s not one documented case of a sex worker giving a client aids or vice versa. So it seems that having sex with a legal prostitute, who is checked monthly for STD’s, and is required to use protection is safer then having a one night stand with a stranger.

Actually, prostitution is not legal in Las Vegas, which resides in Clark County. It is, however, legal in Pahrump or Crystal, which both reside in Nye County. Legalizing prostitution won’t solve anything, because it is still a dangerous activity that helps spread disease. However, legal or illegal it happens anyways. The government should treat people like adults capable of making their own decisions. I say legalize it and let the individual accept both the responsibility as well as the consequences.

it. wont this can get a woman prision time as well if children are involved took from her as well ? based on fact. ref,,,.law?

  13. a4amir says:

it wont lower the rate of rapes, but it would provoke people not to marry and have ligitimate children.

  14. Pulse says:

First of all, prostitution is NOT legal in Vegas. It’s legal in Reno.

Second, I’m in favor of it because it’s been proven to lower the rate of rape and STD’s wherever it’s been legalized.

It doesn’t eliminate it, but it does lower it.

  15. witchtriumvirate says:

Prostitution is legal throughout the USA. It’s called marriage!

  16. lidijathebeautiful says:

    It should be!

What would you call the taxes??
    Exercise tax…Maybe
    Intimate tax…No
    Relief tax…..Possibly
Size tax…….Which partner do you measure
Annual tax…..Would the IRS collect it. Fed or State???
Sales tax……Most states already have that
    Import tax…..Foreign participants
    Export tax…..US participants abroad
    Property tax…Nope
    Personal tax…Nope
    Amusement tax..Could be

Keep adding all these to it and it will be like gasoline. Can’t afford to go there. No only that there are so many that are giving it away that the hookers are going out of bussiness anyway.

  18. Oso says:

I do not believe that the U.S. government should have the power to classify women as criminals and take away their freedom because they choose to have sex for money. There is nothing inherently evil or wrong with that. It is our puritanical “in god we trust” government that has decided that this career choice is inherently immoral. Remember when the U.S. government made it illegal to buy, sell, or drink alcoholic beverages?

  19. Tsmoove says:

What the heck is wrong with you people?? This is a real dumb self explanatory type question and ya’ll totally blew it. JESUS HELP US ALL!!

  20. gailforce_wind says:

Can you please demonstrate the correlation between legalized prostitution and rape? Is the rate of sexual assault lower in Nevada per capita than say Nebraska? The two have nothing to do with one another. Rape is a crime of rage and violence, done out of anger. Not to sate a sexual desire.

  21. godoompah says:

all hookers are nasty women. seriously. Its fun to see the hookers in porn, but real actual hookers are fugly.
