  1. Irish says:

    It’s against the law.

its “illegal” in every state except for certain counties/cities in Nevada.
theres just too many people doing it illegally for it to be stopped sadly enough.

It’s illegal for the most part. However, in certain places, it is legal, but they have standards for health and pay I believe. You can’t be on the street corner, but places like the Bunny Ranch are legal as far as I know.

    Where?

    Currently, most states outlaw prostitution.

The effects of making prostitution illegal are debated. Some argue that outlawing the practice causes unnecessary problems for prostitutes, and that the (mainly) women who undertake sex work endure dangerous and unhealthy working conditions due to the illegal nature of the industry. Since women face disproportionate penalties for sex work, many consider laws against prostitution to be sexist.

There is a different and controversial approach in Sweden, where prostitution is illegal, but only customers of prostitutes are usually prosecuted for crimes. Under this system, women who engage in sex work are not harassed by police, but people who attempt to pay for sex are. The effect of this system has been a dramatic decrease in prostitution in Sweden.

Many advocate making prostitution legal (or at least regulated) to enable sex workers to gain protections and seek assistance without fear of imprisonment, but in most places around the world prostitution is simply against the law.
